Graphic design is the art of communicating or projecting certain ideas or messages with visual and textual content. Graphic design can be seen in posters, book covers, infographics, logos, product labels, signs, business cards, website layouts, and mobile apps. To be a great graphic designer and flourish in the field, you must be aware of and be ready to apply graphic design principles.

Many softwares are available in graphic design, such as Adobe Photoshop, which is used to edit photos and large image-based layouts. Adobe InDesign, a publishing program for creating layouts and multipage documents such as posters, flyers, magazines, and printing. Adobe Illustrator is used to creating vector graphics such as illustrations and logos. Canva already has templates for users to create posters, social media graphics, presentations, and other visual content. Many companies use graphic design services to sell and promote their products, develop their business by branding.

The basic principles which are guides that aid in creating a good design for a beginner are Colour, Typography, Space, Lines and Shapes, Texture.

Colour: Colour is an assortment of hues; it influences and engages the audience if you know how to use it. The psychology of colour is very crucial in graphic design. Colour is powerful such that the colours chosen for designs affect the overall aesthetic and audience. Different colours bring different results. A graphic designer needs to select the right colours that will drive results; he should understand that each colour affects the intended audience.

Typography: This involves words used and the selection of fonts and font layout used to communicate those words. As a beginner in graphic designing, you need to use the right words and fonts creatively to drive the audience because it says a lot about what you are about and who you are. As a beginner, using the right fonts will elevate your design to a professional level.

Space: When space is used effectively in a design, it looks great. It is not a good idea to squeeze in every design element into a single composition. Keep it simple. Using space brings attention to the elements that matter.

Lines and shapes: These are the foundation of every design. The way they are used can totally change how a design looks and feels. Using lines and shapes to create designs gives designs in line with your vision, brand, and messaging. For instance, a design that is all sharp lines will send a very different message than a design that embraces rounded edges.

Texture: This brings a visually engaging design because it adds depth and dimension to designs. As a beginner, try to add a 3D element or create an illusion to make the design more memorable.
